Melinda Rose Dillon was born October 1939 in Hope, Arkansas. One of her best known roles is as Ralphie's mother in "A Christmas Story" and Jillian Guiler, the mother of the little boy named Barry who was abducted in the film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". A role for which she was nominated for an Oscar.
